New England (Boston, Massachusetts)

NEW ENGLAND (BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS)

As arguably the best sports city in the entire world, it comes to no surprise that our three-day trip to Boston revolved around sports and physical activity. Boston had been on our checklist for a very long time before we finally pulled the trigger on our incredible $80 round-trip flight out of Chicago. Since we had such a short period of time on the east coast, particularly in New England, we knew we had to sacrifice our sleep in order to make the most of it.

We stayed in the beautiful historical district of Boston where our hotel was nestled in the midst of great Irish pubs and lively streets. We were also a very short distance away from the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, which provided a great area to grab a coffee each morning and a casual sit-down lunch or dinner.

On our first day in Boston, we started out by renting bikes from a place called, “Adventours,” located adjacent to our hotel. Our friend told is beforehand that Boston is an extremely bike-friendly city, and he was nothing short of correct. From its city center to the surrounding neighborhoods, Boston will have a bike path. This experience made sight-seeing so easy and fun, and provided us with the opportunity to check out some of Boston’s greatest city parks.

Biking in Boston, MA

Our first stop of the day was to none other than famous Fenway Park! Although it unfortunately wasn’t baseball season at the time of our visit, Fenway was still a remarkable place to see. We ventured down to the well-known, Bleacher Bar, situated under the Green Monster where we enjoyed lunch and a fantastic view of the ballpark. As a matter of fact, Bleacher Bar cares so much about their view of the ballpark that the men’s restroom actually has windows out to the field just to make sure you don’t miss part of the game during your bathroom break!

After our visit to Fenway Park, we decided to bike back into he city center for some shopping and a quick coffee. The city was absolutely spectacular! The architecture varied from historical stone to modern, floor-to-ceiling glass. If you’re seeking an aerial view of the city, we suggest taking an elevator ride up to the Skywalk. From here, you have a 360-degree view of the entire city. Our second suggestion is to visit the skywalk during golden-hour/sunset, prior to a nice dinner downtown.

Boston's Skywalk

After our visit to the Skywalk, we continued to wander around the city, admiring Boston’s lovely architecture prior to our venture back towards our hotel.

Christopher Columbus Park in Boston

We walked around the city for a bit and took in all of the lovely architecture before venturing back down the city roads to our hotel. Next to our hotel was the cutest city park we had ever stumbled upon. It hosts a romantic light tunnel, perfect for a nightly stroll after dinner. This tunnel is located at Christopher Columbus Park and is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

After dinner, we reconnected with one of Jalen’s friends, Ryan, that he met while studying abroad in London. Being a New England native, Ryan had lived in the Boston area all his life and was currently residing in Cambridge. We met up with him, had a few drinks, and ventured out to a small pub to close out our trip. Although Boston was a short trip for us, our adventure was filled with history, sports, and gorgeous views that will have us yearning to go back.
